It’s as Simple as a Cold Gatorade on a Hot DaSometimes, the smallest gesture can make the biggest impact.

One summer afternoon, there was roadwork happening in our neighborhood. It caused congestion, delays, and more than a few frustrated drivers. But the people I couldn’t stop thinking about were the workers—standing out there in the scorching heat, directing traffic and keeping their crew safe.

It was one of those weeks where the sun felt relentless. There was no breeze, no shade—just pavement and heat. And while the crew worked hard, they also had to endure the complaints and glares of impatient drivers. They couldn’t take breaks. They couldn’t leave their posts. They just stood there, doing their job.

So I did something simple.

I went inside and grabbed a few bottles of cold water and Gatorade from the fridge and brought them out to the workers and the police officer stationed nearby. One of the men took off his hat, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and smiled. “Thank you,” he said, before taking a long sip.

In that moment, everything paused.

It wasn’t about the drink—it was about being seen, appreciated, and cared for. That one small gesture changed his day. And honestly, it changed mine too.
